One of 10 1965 Mustangs sold by famed SoCal Ford dealership languished in a garage for 40 years before restoration.
It’s not always new stuff we sometimes find at major shows like these, though. Case in point: this “Barn Find” 1965 Shelby GT350 was mechanically restored by none other than the world’s biggest Ford dealership by volume, Southern California’s very own Galpin Ford.
Galpin was one of the first Ford dealerships to offer the Shelby GT350 to customers, selling 10 of the high-power ponies for the 1965 model year.
This GT350 was one of the 10 sold in 1965, equipped with a 306-horsepower 289 V8 and Borg-Warner T10 four-speed.
After five years on the road, though, the Shelby wound up in a garage for four decades beginning in 1970 after travelling 44,000 original miles.
Following the mechanical restoration, Galpin Ford CEO Beau Boeckmann drove the GT350 300 miles to the Quail at Pebble Beach for its return to the sunny roads of California. Since then, it’s also appeared at the Galpin Car Show, and now, the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.
